Director
Dr. Cheryl King, director of the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA) and licensed clinical psychologist, joined the University of Michigan faculty in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1987. She has been leading IHA since 2009. A professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Michigan, Dr. King's career as a clinical psychologist spans nearly 30 years. In addition to her administrative role at IHA, she is well- known for her expertise in youth and young adult suicide risk assessment and prevention. She is a tireless advocate for the integration of science and clinical practice, for strong clinical psychology training and mentorship, and for quality mental health services that enhance the well-being of individuals, couples, and families.
Read the full bio Dr. Cynthia Ewell Foster is the director of the University Center for the Child and the Family (UCCF). Dr. Ewell Foster is a licensed clinical child and adolescent psychologist with expertise in a variety of evidence-based psychotherapies for children and adolescents. In addition to her position at UCCF, Dr. Ewell Foster also has a joint appointment as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she participates on the Depression and Suicide Prevention Research Team and provides teaching and supervision to mental health professionals in training. Dr. Ewell Foster has been working at the University of Michigan since 2002, joining IHA in 2011.
Read the full bio Todd K. Favorite, PhD has been the director of the U-M Psychological Clinic since 2010. He holds a clinical faculty position in the U-M Department of Psychiatry and is an attending clinical psychologist on the PTSD Clinical Team at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System. His interests in clinical research are in the area of the co-occurring symptoms of PTSD, chronic depression, and insomnia. From a psychological training perspective, Dr. Favorite has a background in psychodynamic as well as cognitive-behavioral methods and views the psychotherapy integration as an important evolution in the practice of psychosocial treatments. He is internationally certified as an advanced trainer for the Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System for Psychotherapy (CBASP) and has conducted research and published on the use of this integrative system of treatment for co-existing psychological symptoms.

Anupama (Anu) Agrawal, LMSW, is a clinical social worker at the University Center for the Child and the Family (UCCF). Ms. Agrawal has had years of clinical experience before coming to the Institute for Human Adjustment, including clinical experience as a psychoanalytic psychotherapy fellow at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute and Society and as a clinical instructor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work before coming to Michigan.

Eileen Bond, LMSW, is a clinical social worker at the University Center for the Child and the Family with over thirty years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. In her early career, she worked at Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital for eight years. She also developed two parenting classes in the community including a mother-daughter group addressing issues of puberty and "Parenting the Young Child" classes. In addition to supervising, teaching, and serving as a clinician, she maintains a private practice in Ann Arbor.

She brings a number of years of experience as a mental health provider in intensive, psychodynamically oriented treatment to IHA and to our trainees. The rich training program and the opportunity to have an impact on guiding students is part of what drew Bobbi to work at the Psychological Clinic.
Read the full bio Kristen M. Chapman, MA, is a senior speech/language/learning specialist at the University Center for the Child and the Family (UCCF). Ms. Chapman started the psychoeducational testing service at UCCF, and is involved in the coordination of that service. She also supervises the intake process for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluations. After clients go through evaluations for attention and/or learning problems, Ms. Chapman participates in feedback sessions to help families with educational follow-up. The educational consultation service is available to families whose children are tested at UCCF, the families of children who are clients at UCCF, as well as children and families in the greater Ann Arbor, Michigan, community.

Jennifer Corey has been working as a Senior Speech Language Pathologist at the UCLL since 2008. Before joining UCLL, she worked with adult inpatients and adult and pediatric outpatients in an acute care hospital. She has also worked in a subacute rehabilitation facility. Jennifer obtained a wide range of experiences in these settings by working with clients across the lifespan. She has a strong background in voice disorders and swallowing.

Jeanne has worked with clients across the lifespan, from early childhood to older adults, and brings this developmental perspective to her clinical work and supervision.

In addition to her appointment at UCCF, Dr. Gipson is a Research Investigator in the Department of Psychiatry, child/adolescent section, at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At UCCF, Dr. Gipson coordinates training for psychology practicum students and provides training and clinical services in diagnostic assessment, anxiety, depression, trauma, and suicide risk assessment and intervention.

In addition to her role at IHA, Dr. Hodges is also a clinical assistant professor and associate clinical director of the neuropsychology section in the UMHS Department of Psychiatry.

He has worked in school systems, acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, nursing facilities and home care. He has also worked as an adjunct lecturer for courses in communication disorders. Gordon has been a board member of the Michigan Speech/Language Hearing Association for many years.

She is also an ASD phenotyping consultant on the Simons Variation in Individuals Project (Simons VIP).

Ms. Nantau started her career as Director of Special Education Services for seven school districts in North Central South Dakota. Her teaching experience includes a tenure as Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders where she served as Director of both the Communication Disorders program and Speech and Language clinic and a five year tenure as Instructor and Clinical Supervisor at Murray State University.
Read the full bio Sheri Stankorb-Geiselman, LLMSW, is a post-MSW fellow at the University Center for the Child and the Family (UCCF), where she provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and families, as well as couples therapy and parent guidance. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Prior to her fellowship, Sheri was a social work intern at UCCF where, in addition to psychotherapy services, she helped facilitate a social skills group, and presented to parents on the emotional impact of parenting kids with ADHD and learning disabilities.
Read the full bio Dr. Jeff Urist, PhD, is a long-standing member of the Senior Supervisory Staff at the U-M Psychological Clinic. Having received both his undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Michigan, Dr. Urist has served since 1973 as faculty in both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychiatry at U-M. Before coming on staff at the U-M Psychological Clinic in 1989, he was Chief Psychologist at the Adolescent Program in the U-M Department of Psychiatry where he directed the Adolescent Psychology Training Program for 10 years. He serves on the faculty of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute in addition to his teaching and supervisory role at the Clinic. Dr. Urist has maintained a private practice in Ann Arbor since 1973 where he sees adolescents, adults and couples.
Read the full bio Michelle (Shelly) Van Etten Lee, PhD, is the director of psychology training at the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA). She has been working as a clinical psychologist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, since 1997. She joined IHA in 2005 and has been the director of psychology training since 2009. She currently holds two adjunct faculty titles in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry. Inspired by the effectiveness of the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of anxiety disorders, Shelly has studied and developed an expertise in CBT over the course of her career, bringing this method of treatment to IHA.
Read the full bio Susan (Sue) Watts, ACSW, LMSW, is a senior supervisor at the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA) and the director of the Social Work Training Program. She started her career as a social worker in Australia, where she was the director of a couples therapy agency. Sue was involved in the early evolution of family therapy and family systems theory in Australia, and from those foci she developed her interest in couples counseling. After leaving Australia, Sue worked at Guy's Hospital in London, England. She moved to the United States in 1990, and joined IHA in 1996.
Read the full bio Dr. Teri Wolf, MD, is a psychiatrist at the U-M Psychological Clinic. Dr. Wolf has been on staff at the U-M Psychological Clinic since 2007. She received both her undergraduate and her residency training at the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Michigan State University CHM. Dr. Wolf received additional psychiatry and neurology training from UC San Francisco, UC Davis and Stanford University, and board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

As a patient services associate, Ms. Davis greets and assists visitors to UCCF and the U-M Psychological Clinic, answers phones at both locations, and handles assorted front office duties.
Read the full bio Victoria (Vikki) Dudley, BBA, is the budget and operations analyst and financial unit liaison in the central office of the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA). She has been working in the field of accounting for over 20 years, the last nine of which have been at the University of Michigan. Vikki was previously a financial consultant in the U-M Medical School before starting at IHA. She is currently working on implementing university-supported systems to track and report financial data, making our systems more efficient for future use.

She has been working at IHA in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for over 16 years, and has over 25 years of experience at the University of Michigan. Brenda has worked in human resource management, budget administration, information technology administration, and marketing for U-M. She establishes financial and employment internal controls for IHA while also working as the webmaster, managing content and site logistics. Brenda also serves as the HIPAA Privacy and HRMS unit liaison for IHA.

Lisa has established the recreational and social component at UMAP. She is also head of Volunteer Services.
Aaron is the Accountant at UCLL. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Eastern Michigan University. Before coming to the UCLL Aaron worked in administration for the Business Engagement Center and the Office of Technology Transfer.

Joanne Marttila Pierson, PhD, CCC-SLP has been a speech-language pathologist for over 30 years. She received her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Language, Literacy, and Learning Disabilities from the University of Michigan. Prior to returning to UM for her doctorate, Dr. Pierson practiced in the private sector and as a public school speech-language pathologist where she also trained students.

Before coming to IHA, Dave worked as an independent computer consultant in Texas for about 10 years prior to taking on the job of IT Manager for the ABC television station in Dallas, Texas. Dave also serves on the Campus HIPPA Security Committee, where he has been a member for several years.

She works closely with our trainees and interns, planning their events from orientation to graduation. Before coming to IHA, Ms. Woodard worked as a supervisor and customer service representative for phone companies in Atlanta, Georgia, and San Francisco, California. She started working in the U-M Psychological Clinic in 1995 as the daytime receptionist and progressed through office supervisor to senior administrative assistant in the IHA central office.

Will dedicates most of his week to his research and coursework along with his caseload at the Psychological Clinic. Before coming to IHA, Kyle did clinical work at a community outpatient psychology clinic, an intensive inpatient psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents, and a parent-child relationship clinic. Kyle has also taught Developmental Psychology at both Eastern Michigan University and Hope College.

Katie enjoys working with a variety of age groups and splits her full-time intern position at the institute between UCCF and the Psychological Clinic. She recently defended her dissertation, an empirical research study examining the longitudinal links between couple spirituality and relationship outcomes across the transition to parenthood.

Before coming to the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA), Melissa had a clinical internship with Heritage Professional Associates in Hinsdale, Illinois. She also interned at the Family Service Agency: Child Advocacy Center in 2011 and has previously volunteered as a mentor for developmentally delayed children. Melissa is currently training in various therapies for the treatment of adults in the Ann Arbor community.
