In their words...

We all grow up in the context of a family, in the context of a culture, in the context of a society. Those are important aspects to look at in terms of understanding, holistically, who a person is, where they come from, and where they want to go.

Eileen Bond, LMSW, Supervising Faculty at UCCF

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides parents and children a safe, controlled environment in which to learn and practice skills. Participants are encouraged to participate as they feel comfortable, allowing themselves and others to benefit and learn from their contributions.

Costs may be covered by insurance.

UCCF offers the following therapy groups:

Social Skills Groups

For Children Grades 1-3
Starting April 15

Social Skills Groups are designed to help children learn skills that are important in establishing friendships and maintaining positive social interactions while having fun in a group setting. All social skill group meetings include instruction, role-playing or practice, and feedback to help learners acquire and practice skills to promote positive social interactions with peers across settings. During group sessions, children will work on specific skills such as listening to peers, joining in play, how to read social cues, relaxation skills and learning to compromise.

Parents will be informed about the skills learned during group sessions to encourage the child to practice the new skills in between group meetings.

This group will run for eight weeks on Mondays from 6 p.m.–7 p.m. at UCCF. There will be no group session on Memorial Day, May 27, 2013.

Adjusting to Separation or Divorce

For Children
Starting time and date TBA, so please check back with us.

This group will run for eight weeks on Wednesday evenings. We are still enrolling families for this group, so please call us to register if you are interested.

Strategies for Parenting Challenging Children

For Parents of Children Ages 4-12
Starting May 7

Parenting is a challenge for all of us! When children struggle with attention, temperament, or behavior, parenting can be an especially challenging job. This 4 week group is designed to teach parents strategies and tools to use at home to decrease the arguing, increase children's compliance, and, more importantly, to help kids feel successful. Come spend your lunch hour with us at UCCF to learn from our expert clinicians as well as other parents about how to have less negative and more positive time with your children.

Groups run from 12 p.m.–1 p.m. every Tuesday in May, beginning on May 7.  Feel free to bring your lunch!
