Director
Dr. Persad joined the University of Michigan as a faculty member in 2003 and has been Director of UCLL since 2011. She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in Psychiatry, with an Adjunct Associate Professor appointment in Psychology.

Mimi has been on staff since 1992 and began her career as a staff speech and language pathologist at UCLL. Over the years, her professional duties have increased and she has been the Clinical Services Manager for 11 years.
Lynn began facilitating group and individual music therapy at the University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) in 2005.
Jennifer Corey has been working as a Senior Speech Language Pathologist at the UCLL since 2008. Before joining UCLL, she worked with adult inpatients and adult and pediatric outpatients in an acute care hospital. She has also worked in a subacute rehabilitation facility. Jennifer obtained a wide range of experiences in these settings by working with clients across the lifespan. She has a strong background in voice disorders and swallowing.
Read the full bio Gordon has been a senior speech and language pathologist at UMAP since 2004. He has been in the field over 30 years in various capacities. He has worked in school systems, acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, nursing facilities and home care. He has also worked as an adjunct lecturer for courses in communication disorders. Gordon has been a board member of the Michigan Speech/Language Hearing Association for many years.

She completed her Clinical Fellowship at UCLL in May 2011. She provides intervention to adults in the University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP). She also provides speech, language, and literacy intervention to preschool and school-age children.
Read the full bio Judy L. Nantau has 38 years of experience in clinical and educational settings. Ms. Nantau started her career as Director of Special Education Services for seven school districts in North Central South Dakota. Her teaching experience includes a tenure as Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders where she served as Director of both the Communication Disorders program and Speech and Language clinic and a five year tenure as Instructor and Clinical Supervisor at Murray State University.

Samantha Harris, BA, is the marketing communications specialist at the University Center for the Development of Language and Literacy (UCLL). Samantha has studied communications, marketing, and psychology.
Read the full bio Lisa is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. She has been at UCLL for 10 years working with clients and family members of the University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP). Lisa has established the recreational and social component at UMAP. She is also head of Volunteer Services.
Aaron is the Accountant at UCLL. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Eastern Michigan University. Before coming to the UCLL Aaron worked in administration for the Business Engagement Center and the Office of Technology Transfer.

Joanne Marttila Pierson, PhD, CCC-SLP, Program Officer of Development Marketing and Special Projects
Joanne Marttila Pierson, PhD, CCC-SLP has been a speech-language pathologist for over 30 years. She received her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Language, Literacy, and Learning Disabilities from the University of Michigan. Prior to returning to UM for her doctorate, Dr. Pierson practiced in the private sector and as a public school speech-language pathologist where she also trained students.
Read the full bio La Shawn works full-time as a medical biller and accounts representative at UCLL since October 2006, and has been with the University of Michigan since February 2002. La Shawn has worked in the various areas of the medical administrative field since 1994.
Read the full bio Dinah joined UCLL in 2007 to provide project management for It's a Rap: Celebrating 60 Years of the University of Michigan Aphasia Program Gala Event. Her background combines over 20 years of administrative experience, including 7 years in the non-profit sector as the Grants Coordinator for the Association for Asian Studies in Ann Arbor.

Marissa began working at UCLL in June of 2012, and she is one of the speech-language pathologists completing her Clinical Fellowship year. Marissa completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
