At the Psychological Clinic, we have a multidisciplinary staff that includes highly experienced psychologists, social workers, and a psychiatrist who closely supervise our practicing post-doctoral psychology fellows, psychology interns, and clinical social work interns. Our professional staff adheres to a scientist-practitioner model to provide evidence-based care and psychotherapy training. With a range of staff expertise, we are able to train and practice using an integrative approach to psychotherapy. We are dedicated to providing culturally sensitive consultations for each client.

Director
Todd K. Favorite, PhD has been the director of the U-M Psychological Clinic since 2010. He holds a clinical faculty position in the U-M Department of Psychiatry and is an attending clinical psychologist on the PTSD Clinical Team at the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System. His interests in clinical research are in the area of the co-occurring symptoms of PTSD, chronic depression, and insomnia. From a psychological training perspective, Dr. Favorite has a background in psychodynamic as well as cognitive-behavioral methods and views the psychotherapy integration as an important evolution in the practice of psychosocial treatments. He is internationally certified as an advanced trainer for the Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System for Psychotherapy (CBASP) and has conducted research and published on the use of this integrative system of treatment for co-existing psychological symptoms.

Barbara (Bobbi) Cain, ACSW, has worked as a social worker and supervisor at the U-M Psychological Clinic since 1975. She brings a number of years of experience as a mental health provider in intensive, psychodynamically oriented treatment to IHA and to our trainees. The rich training program and the opportunity to have an impact on guiding students is part of what drew Bobbi to work at the Psychological Clinic.
Read the full bio Jeanne Duax, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist at the U-M Psychological Clinic whose clinical interests and experiences lie in treating clients with anxiety disorders, particularly those with histories of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Jeanne has worked with clients across the lifespan, from early childhood to older adults, and brings this developmental perspective to her clinical work and supervision.

She has been working at the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA) since March 2009. In addition to her role at IHA, Dr. Hodges is also a clinical assistant professor and associate clinical director of the neuropsychology section in the UMHS Department of Psychiatry.
Read the full bio Dr. Jeff Urist, PhD, is a long-standing member of the Senior Supervisory Staff at the U-M Psychological Clinic. Having received both his undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Michigan, Dr. Urist has served since 1973 as faculty in both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychiatry at U-M. Before coming on staff at the U-M Psychological Clinic in 1989, he was Chief Psychologist at the Adolescent Program in the U-M Department of Psychiatry where he directed the Adolescent Psychology Training Program for 10 years. He serves on the faculty of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute in addition to his teaching and supervisory role at the Clinic. Dr. Urist has maintained a private practice in Ann Arbor since 1973 where he sees adolescents, adults and couples.
Read the full bio Michelle (Shelly) Van Etten Lee, PhD, is the director of psychology training at the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA). She has been working as a clinical psychologist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, since 1997. She joined IHA in 2005 and has been the director of psychology training since 2009. She currently holds two adjunct faculty titles in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry. Inspired by the effectiveness of the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of anxiety disorders, Shelly has studied and developed an expertise in CBT over the course of her career, bringing this method of treatment to IHA.
Read the full bio Susan (Sue) Watts, ACSW, LMSW, is a senior supervisor at the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA) and the director of the Social Work Training Program. She started her career as a social worker in Australia, where she was the director of a couples therapy agency. Sue was involved in the early evolution of family therapy and family systems theory in Australia, and from those foci she developed her interest in couples counseling. After leaving Australia, Sue worked at Guy's Hospital in London, England. She moved to the United States in 1990, and joined IHA in 1996.

She received both her undergraduate and her residency training at the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Michigan State University CHM. Dr. Wolf received additional psychiatry and neurology training from UC San Francisco, UC Davis and Stanford University, and board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Read the full bio Carol Woodard, BA, is the senior administrative assistant in the IHA central office. She works closely with our trainees and interns, planning their events from orientation to graduation. Before coming to IHA, Ms. Woodard worked as a supervisor and customer service representative for phone companies in Atlanta, Georgia, and San Francisco, California. She started working in the U-M Psychological Clinic in 1995 as the daytime receptionist and progressed through office supervisor to senior administrative assistant in the IHA central office.

Stefanie Block, BA, is a psychology practicum student at the Institute for Human Adjustment (IHA) and a doctoral candidate in the University of Michigan's Clinical Psychology Program. She is a graduate student instructor for an undergraduate psychology course at U-M. Before coming to Michigan, Stefanie worked as a research coordinator at Massachusetts General Hospital for the Psychiatric Genetics Program in Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
